The color book that I’m creating is based on my midterm brief – ‘single’. I have the layout, pictures and copy for the pages. I’m still working on the cover and page arrangement.
The view of 94 Marlin/Quinique/Sammy
Our group project is a set of photos that tells the story of a game of basketball that escalates quickly. The photos show the perspective of one or possibly all the players as the game progresses. Also we’re gonna have the color mode of the photos increase in redness with each photo until the end of the book.

Project Title: Space Guns
Concept: The project is a book for paintball markers, specifically speedball markers. Speedball markers, referred to as space guns (a sort of playful/derogatory term) are light usually aluminum based markers. They have a stunning color range. The book/magazine will contain multiple photos of the speedball type of marker with a bit of information on each page about the contained marker.
Aesthetic Summary: The speedball marker is typically an aluminum body accented with various colors due to anodizing. As such the primary source of color will be from the marker itself in the picture. Content like marker info or captions are white with black transparent backgrounds (75% opacity perhaps).
Art: The only art really is the photography of the paintball markers.
Copy: The text that accompanies the full page photo will display things like the name of the marker, who makes the marker, basic price unit, and a small paragraph of text describing the marker (efficiency, size, special features).
Color Scheme: Besides the black and white text/boxes on every page the pictures will likely be fully scale to the size of the page. All major hues will come from the color of the pictured marker itself.
Typefaces: A small (type not font) sans serif typeface will be used. This is because speedball markers a smaller, lighter, and to the point rather than their more mil-sim partners.
Layout Notes: The marker has to dominate the page in each photo unless the background matches. Green markers should be on a lighter background but still visible and bright. With the marker being the brightest focal point the pages can progress in R.O.Y.G.B.I.V. color order. The book would likely start with a blue or purple anodized marker.
Dimensions: 8.5 x 11
Page Count: 20 pages.
Substrate (be specific about paper type and quality): For the type of content a type of glossy paper would be good to fully show the color and shine of the markers. It’s going to be on a gloss fiber-based paper. I hear double coating is of high quality so if within the budgets that will most likely be chosen.
Binding: Side signature or glued to a glossy cover. Side cut.
Print Run: I think a small run would be best, probably be best. I don’t think there are many new innovations with speedball markers coming out. A small run would be best in gauging reader interest (though everyone like marker porn haha.) About 1,000 copies
Printing facility:Fedex office
Budget: $1,500
Timeline: 3 months (to fully prepare print and circulate all copies of the magazine)

Daisy Chen – HW March 1
My concept is to make a colorful and fun book about what urban people think about alcohol. It contains various interviews from different age range, from 16-35. There will be photo of the interviewers, their name and age, what is their favorite drink, how much can they drink, how many night per week and why do they drink. Each page will have different colors of background, depends on the interviewers, because each colors represent different kind of mood. It will be printed on paper-card, 5×5″.
PS: I was absent last week, so will talk more with my group/partner later on.
